BIO
Ann Sweeney
Ann Sweeney is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Masters of Social Work graduate from Florida State University. Before formally entering the field of social work, Ann spent much of her professional career working in Special Needs Education with a concentration in Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the Non- Profit Sector. Ann built on her professional foundation by interning with Sarasota County Schools during the 2020-2021 school year where she became well versed in the process of IEP’s, 504 Accommodations, school and community resources, as well as growing her counseling skills while working with children and adolescents ranging in ages from seven to eighteen through mentorship, counseling, and facilitating group therapy. Ann then had the opportunity to work alongside the professionals on the interdisciplinary team at Bayside Behavioral Health as a Case Manager and Group Therapist. During this experience she was able to gain a wealth of knowledge regarding mental health disorders and diagnosis by working with psychiatrists as well as becoming proficient at developing treatment plans for clients tailored to their specific needs. Ann enjoys working with children, teens and adults who find themselves struggling and are open to the possibilities the therapeutic process may afford them.
Ann understands that beginning therapy can be intimidating, or overwhelming but wants potential clients to know it doesn’t have to be that way. Her goal is to empower any individual who steps into the office to utilize the strengths they already possess and share valuable insight, techniques, and psychoeducation that will give them the tools they need to make progress in their own life. Ann commonly utilizes approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing to help clients shift their perspective and understand the power they have over their progress.
Outside of the office, Ann loves being a mom to three sweet boys who keep her on her toes and always learning through each new stage of parenting. Her ideal day is watching the sun come up on her porch sipping coffee and spending the rest of her day watching college football with her husband. She feels most like herself when she is running, and encourages everybody to find the “thing” that allows them to realize how beautiful the world can be.
